SUSTAINABILITY STORIES: New Milford High School

Hi SusSpotters! I'm going to be starting a more frequently updated series called "Sustainability Stories" in which I share local news of environmental achievement from all over the nation (and world). I'll provide a short summary of an article and then include the link at the end for you to enjoy the full-length story on your own!

At New Milford High School in Connecticut, students David Palmer and Connor Ring led a number of school-wide and local sustainability projects in just one school year. Their achievements include:

- Planting 70+ new trees in town

- Working with their cafeteria to install composting

- Revamping the school greenhouses

- Creating new beds for the school courtyard gardens

- Helping New Milford High School become a certified Green LEAF school

The pair was inspired by their AP Environmental Science class and collaborated with their high school administration, local officials, as well as farmers. Anthony Blake, the high school's assistant principle, remarked that "They’ve shown other students by their actions rather than their words that it’s easy to identify problems in their schools and find solutions."
