SUSTAINABILITY STORIES: Climate group’s book club promotes activism through reading

"On January 13th, NHCM’s own book club met at the Teen Center in the New Haven Free Public Library for a group reading + discussion of the Serviceberry by Robin Wall Kimmerer! Participants held a deep conversation on ideas of the gift economy, scarcity mindset, and indigenous ideals on nature. Michelle So, a reporter with Yale Daily News, joined the session and later wrote an article on it, saying how “According to members of the Climate Movement, hosting book clubs has been a way for members to engage with environmental policy through literacy and increased perspectives.” NHCM hopes such events can help individuals reconsider their mindsets on sustainability and feel inspired to be more civically engaged." I'm proud to say I was one of the people on the NHCM Climate Education Committee that created this book club last summer! :) They're always great events to have some snacks, make crafts, and socialize, but we've also always had some really deep and thoughtful conversations on societies and the environment.
