Cans to Mirrors

Hello everyone, happy summer! I don't know about you all, but I'm so glad it's finally the time for popsicles and pools and exotic vacations! To celebrate the exciting end of the school year, I wanted to share a big thing I have recently finished. As my final project of the year for my school Earth and Space Science course, I was asked to create a project surrounding either natural resources or waste elimination. After much painstaking (at times infuriating) brainstorming and research, I decided on an idea to turn the huge amounts of wasted aluminum soda cans we see in today's landfills into aluminum mirror coating. I know this idea sounds a little silly, even a bit mundane - even I thought so at first. I mean, mirrors aren't really a super thrilling topic at first glance. But my perspective has totally changed since, and I think yours will be too! I promise this work is worth a look. I've shared both my Slides presentation and Project Write-Up below, please consider scrolling through a bit! However, keep in mind that I am far from a professional and there are undeniably flaws in my project. My prototype is in a very primitive form and the feasibility of my idea may be questionable. Still, I ask you to keep in mind the effort I put into this project and appreciate it as a creative proposal. Thanks so much! I hope you enjoy my work.
